UK Petroleum Co. Ltd
Apply to the Courses.Energy Free Access Fund
UK Petroleum Co. Ltd uses its own budget to support eligible applicants who face a genuine course-fee barrier and whose selected foundation course is relevant to entering, re-entering or developing capability for the energy sector.
Provided directly by UK Petroleum Co. LtdThe Courses.Energy Free Access Fund is financed by UK Petroleum Co. Ltd from its own operating budget. It is not a government grant, public subsidy, student loan, cash award or third-party scholarship. An approved award waives the course fee for one eligible introductory foundation course; no money is paid to the recipient.
Who may receive supportThe Fund is intended primarily for relevant students, recent graduates, people currently unemployed and professionals genuinely between roles. Applicants changing direction within the energy sector may also be considered where they are currently without active employment or commercial activity and the selected course has a clear connection to their intended work.
Relevant studentA person currently enrolled with a recognised university, college, technical, vocational or professional education provider in energy or a materially relevant supporting discipline. Relevant disciplines may include engineering, geoscience, environmental studies, sustainability, economics, finance, business, trade, law, policy, data, artificial intelligence, logistics or supply chain. The applicant must explain how the selected course supports their studies or intended energy-sector career. Evidence of current enrolment may be requested.
Recent graduateA person who has recently completed a relevant programme of study and is seeking to enter the energy sector or a directly supporting function. Applications are normally strongest where graduation was within the previous 24 months, although individual circumstances may be considered. Evidence of completion may be requested.
Currently unemployedFor this Fund, this means the applicant is not in paid employment, is not self-employed, is not operating an active company or commercial venture, and is not regularly earning income through consultancy, contracting, trading, brokerage, online sales or another business activity. This is a programme eligibility definition, not a statutory definition of unemployment. State benefits, student support, unpaid volunteering or passive personal investment income do not by themselves constitute active commercial activity.
Between rolesA professional whose previous paid role has ended and who is not currently carrying out paid work, self-employment or active commercial activity. The application should explain how the course supports a credible return to work or transition within the energy sector.
How applications are assessedApplications are considered individually and are not approved automatically or solely on a first-come, first-served basis. UK Petroleum Co. Ltd considers the applicant's eligibility category, evidence where requested, financial barrier, relevance of the selected course, clarity of the intended outcome, readiness to participate, previous use of the Fund, course level, available places, cohort suitability and the remaining Fund budget. Incomplete, inaccurate, misleading or unverifiable applications may be declined. An application creates no entitlement until written approval is issued.
1. Application reviewThe submitted status, background, course choice and explanation are reviewed. Reasonable evidence of study, graduation, unemployment or role status may be requested separately. Applicants should not place bank details, benefit records, identity documents or other sensitive information in the comments box.
2. Provisional eligibilityIf the applicant appears eligible, the application may be held while learner demand, instructor availability and the required cohort size are assessed. Provisional eligibility is not yet a confirmed place.
3. Course formationWhen the course can be shaped and the required learner numbers are available, the applicant is sent the proposed instructor, curriculum, delivery format, date, time, time zone, duration, attendance requirement, assessment route and applicable learner terms.
4. Schedule reconfirmationThe applicant must confirm that the proposed date and time are convenient and disclose any reasonable-adjustment, accessibility or technical requirements before the place is finalised.
5. Written awardAn approved recipient receives written confirmation that the course fee is covered by the UK Petroleum Co. Ltd Free Access Fund. No course-fee payment is requested from the approved recipient. The award is personal, non-transferable and has no cash or refund value.
6. Normal course deliveryThe learner receives the same booking confirmation, joining instructions, workbook, pre-course materials, teaching hours, instructor access, assessment arrangements, support and certificate route provided to paying learners on the same course. Funded delivery is not shortened, simplified or treated as a lower-tier version.
What is expected from a recipientRecipients must provide accurate information, respond to reasonable verification requests, reconfirm the proposed schedule, attend and participate in accordance with the published course requirements, complete required pre-course work, use the workbook and materials responsibly, observe professional conduct and academic-integrity rules, complete the assessment where applicable, and notify the team promptly if they cannot attend. A place may be withdrawn or reallocated where information is materially inaccurate, the learner does not reconfirm, does not attend without notice, or repeatedly fails to engage. Honest course feedback may be requested, but a testimonial, public endorsement or marketing participation is not a condition of receiving support.
What the Fund does not normally coverUnless expressly confirmed in writing, the Fund covers only the approved course fee. It does not provide cash, wages, maintenance support, travel, accommodation, meals, equipment, computer or internet costs, software licences, external examination fees, professional-membership fees or third-party accreditation charges. Availability may be paused when the allocated UK Petroleum Co. Ltd budget or suitable course capacity has been committed.
